City of Derby Academy students prepare for the next chapter after GCSE results
Students at City of Derby Academy are preparing to move onto the next chapter of their education after receiving their GCSE results.
This summer’s grades include positive outcomes for English language, maintaining the achievement and success of previous years and enabling students to go onto their next steps.
Other subject highlights include notable performances in childcare, construction, and health and social care, as well as art, photography and religious studies.
Students at the school, based on Farmhouse Road, Sinfin, are progressing to a range of destinations including A Levels and vocational training.
City of Derby Academy joined Tapestry Learning Partnership in January 2026. The Trust runs successful primary, junior and secondary schools in the East Midlands.
Claire Backhouse, Headteacher, City of Derby Academy, who started in post in May 2026, said: “We are really proud of the hard work of all of our students this year. There have been a significant number achieving grade 9s and 8s in English language and maths, which is a testament to the hard work and resilience of our wonderful students here at CoDA.
“We are committed to improving the life chances of all our students and will continue the relentless pursuit of improvement each year. We wish our 2026 cohort every success with their next steps.”
Jahdey Efionayi, 16, who achieved two grade 9s, five grade 8s and one grade 6, said: “I feel very happy, I will be celebrating later.” Jahdey will be going to Derby Moor Sixth Form to study English literature, psychology and history and hopes to pursue a career in law.
Ramandeep Tambar, 16, who achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s, two grade 7s and two grade 6s, said: “I feel very good, happy and ready to celebrate.” Ramandeep will be going to Derby Moor Sixth Form to study business, psychology and chemistry.
Zaine Clarke is the first person at the school to get a distinction star in childcare. Zaine said ‘I’m so happy, I’ve never got a star before. Childcare is my favourite subject. I did well on my coursework, so I knew I could get a good grade if I really tried on my exam.”
Zaine plans to go to Burton Sixth Form. After his result in childcare, Zaine is considering studying childcare as he would love to pursue a career in it.
Mark Mallender, Chief Executive Officer, Tapestry Learning Partnership, added: “Well done to City of Derby Academy students. I would like to wish them every success for the future and thank all the staff for their commitment, hard work and strong support this year.”
