Exercise REPCO 26
Last week, cadets from the City of Derby Academy CCF and Repton School came together for Exercise REPCO 26, a challenging and rewarding four-day joint exercise held across Yardley Chase Training Area, Gamecock Barracks, and Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre.
Over the course of four incredible days, cadets demonstrated exceptional commitment, resilience, and teamwork as they took part in a wide-ranging programme designed to test not only their physical readiness and mental capabilities, but to also put into practice the training they have undertaken this year.
A key highlight of the exercise was the opportunity to handle and fire the L98 Cadet Rifle, with cadets safely conducting live firing on the range, computer simulation on the DCCT and blank fire exercises in the field. These experiences (under the watchful eye of safety staff) reinforced marksmanship skills while building confidence and discipline under realistic conditions.
In addition to military training, cadets embraced adventure training activities, including water sports and high ropes, where they pushed personal boundaries, built trust in one another, and developed confidence in unfamiliar environments.
The exercise culminated in a gruelling fieldcraft phase, where cadets applied their training in realistic tactical scenarios. These included:
-
Ambush and contact drills using blank ammunition.
- A Joint force of 16 senior cadets from both schools successfully assaulting and capturing an enemy position.
- A CIS (Communications and Information Systems) exercise, testing their ability to communicate effectively and map a battlefield in simulated tactical conditions.
-
A First Aid exercise, simulating a crashed RAF C-17 transport, developing vital life-saving skills under pressure.
Despite the hot weather throughout the week, all activities were conducted safely thanks to the vigilance of the camp staff. Great care was taken to ensure cadets remained hydrated, rested, and supported, allowing them to train safely in temperatures of 30C.
The cadets themselves were outstanding, putting in maximum effort to their training and showing determination, resilience, and teamwork in everything, they undertook. Their positive attitude and willingness to embrace every challenge made Exercise REPCO 26 a resounding success.
A huge well done to all involved—cadets and staff alike—for making this a truly memorable and valuable experience. Thank you to Mr Timmins and his fantastic team here at CoDA for giving our students such a brilliant opportunity!
