Admissions

Admissions to the City of Derby Academy

Pupils are admitted at the start of, and during, one main stage:

  • secondary year 7 (age 11)

Admission numbers:

  • 210 full time places - year 7

For admission to secondary year 7, in the year preceding admission, parents should apply using Derby City Council's Schools Admission process.

For admission in September 2017, these forms can be accessed on-line from early September 2016 and all forms should be returned to Derby City Council by midday on 31 October 2016.

To make an application, apply online. You can also make an application on the telephone by calling the Admissions Team at Derby City Council on 01332 642726 or visit their website at www.derby.gov.uk

Appeals

There is a right of appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel for unsuccesful applicants relating to admissions at age 11 and above.  Appeals should be made within 20 (twenty) school days of the date of refusal and should be addressed to the City of Derby Academy, clearly marking your envelope 'Admissions Appeals'.

GDFT Academies sit at the centre of their communities. They do not select by ability and pride themselves on being true ‘Community Academies'.

At present we have a designated ‘catchment area'. We would wish to look at whether a ‘proximity' criterion would serve the area better with those living closest to the Academy having the best chance of a place.

We would consult with the Local Authority, other local schools and the local community before taking a decision on this.
