City of Derby Academy GCSE/BTEC Examination Press Release 2019

Thursday 22nd August 2019

I am delighted and very proud with the ‘record breaking’ set of exam results that our year 11 students have achieved this year. I would like to say well done and congratulations to the whole school community.

The results that our students have achieved are our best ever! 43% of our students achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and mathematics. This is a 10% improvement from last year.

I am especially proud that 11 different students achieved grade 9’s in a number of subjects. This places them within the top 3% across the country. Also, 35 students achieved at least one grade 7 or above, this is 23% of the year group.

Although there have been many success stories, I would like to highlight the following students for their phenomenal performances; A Ark who achieved 8 grade 9’s, S Ark who achieved 3 grade 9’s and S Dhariwal who achieved 2 grade 9’s. Well done to A Singh, J Leung, S Smidova, N Singh, H Krishna, G Kaur, R Agyeman and Z Skindizier who also achieved a fantastic set of results which included a grade 9. In addition, many congratulations to L Hirst, Z Ipaye, D Hussain, O Khan, J Nettleship-Lewis, H Sanotra, A Shukla, J Tsoumou-Gavouka and C Spencer who have achieved a phenomenal set of exam results including grade 7’s and 8’s.

I am also delighted that the vast majority of our students have been successful in securing their preferred pathway and I wish them the very best with their next stages of life.

All of this success is not possible without the dedication and support from every member of staff at the school, and I would also like to thank them for ‘improving the life chances of our students’.

Water Safety

Thursday 18th July 2019

Dear all

The Council have received a number of reports of young people swimming and climbing on the weir in an area known as Pebble Beach on the River Derwent, just below Alvaston Park. Although a lovely spot to enjoy the river, there are hidden dangers to those entering the river water including cold water shock, injury from unseen objects and slippery surfaces.

We would be grateful if you could spread the message to all your pupils just before the summer holidays, about the importance of water safety. Please can you remind all children, and parents/guardians/carers, of the dangers of entering the river and climbing on weirs. For further information on water safety please visit –…/…/children-young-people/

Hope everyone has a lovely and safe summer holidays.

Kind regards

Excellent SMSC provision at CODA.

Tuesday 16th July 2019

On Tuesday 9th July, CoDA was assessed for its SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) curriculum.
The assessor was highly complementary of the school and awarded the school a silver quality mark.

This is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the high quality, holistic, education taking place at CoDA.

Well done to everyone for their part in this. This is an achievement we should all be proud of.
